STREAM Activity: Bottle Watering Can
Water your plants in style!
Activity best for children age 2 and up
Do you have plants in your backyard, front yard or in your home? How about plants around your neighborhood or in your school? These plants need to be taken care of in order to grow. Plants need sunlight, healthy soil, and water in order to stay healthy and grow! One of the most important parts of taking care of plants is making sure they’re watered. Today, we are going to make our very own soda bottle watering can! Or should we say, “watering bottle”? Not only do we get to create a fun watering bottle for you to use for watering your plants but you get to use one that you created! Let’s water our plants (in style!) and make our very own watering bottle!
Materials:
Plastic bottle (soda bottle, water bottle, or any plastic bottle)
Push pin/cutter/skewer
Acrylic paint or craft paint
Black sharpie marker
Paper towel
Guiding Questions:
How often do you or your family water your plants?
What do you use to water your plants?
When using your finished watering bottle, does the water run evenly out of it?
Directions
Step 1
Take your plastic bottle and remove the label. Wash it well and then dry the bottle with a paper towel.
Step 2
Take a push pin (or any pointed/sharp object appropriate) and poke a few small holes on the bottle cap. *Be sure to have your grown-up do this part for you!
Step 3
Take your paint and decorate your bottle.
Step 4
Using a sharpie marker, add extra details to your bottle.
Step 5
Let it dry and enjoy using your cool, new watering bottle!
