Art Activity Video: Tiffany Lamps
Make a famous Tiffany stained glass lamp!
Activity best for children age 4 and up
Tiffany lamps are a popular lamp style that were designed and created in the 1890s and early 1900s. Tiffany lamps are part of the “Art Nouveau” style. This style is known for its decorative curves and detailed lines. Tiffany lamps were created by Louis Comfort Tiffany and his design studio, Tiffany & Co. Tiffany lamps are best known for their stained-glass lamp shades and heavy lead bases. Today, you are going to make your very own 3D Tiffany lamp out of cardboard and construction paper!
Materials you’ll need:
2 Tiffany lamp templates (provided)
Cardboard box (any size will do!)
Construction paper (or paper you can color)
Markers, crayons, paint, or colored pencils
Glue-stick
Directions
STEP 1
Cut out the Tiffany lamp templates. Trace each template onto a part of your cardboard box.
STEP 2
Follow the outlines of the templates and cut out your two lamp pieces.
STEP 3
Color all the sides of your cardboard pieces black.
STEP 4
Cut out different, small shapes from your construction paper such as triangles, circles, rectangles, or squares. These will be your “stained glass” pieces!
STEP 5
Glue your construction paper shapes onto the lamp shades. Be careful not to cover the slits you have cut!
STEP 6
Slide your two lamp pieces together. Place the piece with the long slit over the top of the piece with the short slit. Your Tiffany lamp should be able to stand on its own!
