Art Activity: Succulent Hand Craft
Happy World Water Day!
Activity best for children age 2 and up
World Water Day is an important day to not only celebrate water, but to learn about saving water, why it’s important and how we can save water. It’s no secret that plants need water to stay alive and healthy, but watering plants means we need to use lots of water. To celebrate World Water Day, today we will be making our very own Cactus Hand! A cactus is a type of succulent plant, which means that it is a kind of plant that stores water in its stem (or in its “body”). Since a succulent plant has water in its body that it can drink from anytime, that means we water them much less than regular plants like flowers or grass. Using less water means saving more water!

Materials You’ll Need:
Brown paper
Green paper
Blue paper
Scissors
Glue
Black marker
Pencil
Directions
STEP 1
Fold green paper in half. Then place your hand on top of your green paper and line up your pinky by the folded edge of the paper.

STEP 2
Using a pencil, trace around your hand. When finished, cut it out.

STEP 3
Take your brown paper and fold it in half and cut it into two pieces. With one piece of the brown paper, draw a pot for your succulent.

STEP 4
Cut out your pot and glue the bottom of your cactus hand towards the top of the pot.

STEP 5
Take your black marker and draw spikes on your cactus.

STEP 6
Grab your blue paper and trace 2 drops of water (or however many you’d like). Then cut it out.

STEP 7
Open up your cactus hand and glue your water drops inside your cactus hand. Then you’re all finished! You’ve made your succulent plant with water in its stem!
