Art and science go hand in hand! Join us to explore chemical reactions while creating an art masterpiece!
Materials you’ll need:
Baking soda (base)
White vinegar (acid)
Liquid glue and or glue stick
Paint brush or Q-tips
Glue stick
Food coloring
Water
Crayons
A tray or easily cleanable workspace
Templates:
STEP 1
Draw a picture with the crayon. Flowers, butterflies, sunshine or other simple drawings work best. Feel free to use our pre-made butterfly template!
STEP 2
Use a glue stick and/or liquid glue to outline your illustration.
STEP 3
Sprinkle baking soda on top of the wet glue then shake off the extra! (Pro-tip: working on top of a tray makes clean-up quick and easy!)
STEP 4
Mix 1 drop of food coloring into a small cup of water. Be careful! Food coloring can stain!
STEP 5
Dip your paint brush (or Q-tip) in the homemade watercolors and paint the illustration! Can you see or hear the chemical reactions?
