Art Activity Video: Chemical Reactions

Art and science go hand in hand! Join us to explore chemical reactions while creating an art masterpiece!

Materials you’ll need:

Baking soda (base)

 White vinegar (acid)

 Liquid glue and or glue stick

Paint brush or Q-tips

Glue stick

Food coloring

Water

Crayons

 A tray or easily cleanable workspace

Templates:

Butterfly template

STEP 1
Draw a picture with the crayon. Flowers, butterflies, sunshine or other simple drawings work best. Feel free to use our pre-made butterfly template!

STEP 2
Use a glue stick and/or liquid glue to outline your illustration.

STEP 3
Sprinkle baking soda on top of the wet glue then shake off the extra! (Pro-tip: working on top of a tray makes clean-up quick and easy!)

STEP 4
Mix 1 drop of food coloring into a small cup of water. Be careful! Food coloring can stain!

STEP 5
Dip your paint brush (or Q-tip) in the homemade watercolors and paint the illustration! Can you see or hear the chemical reactions?
