Father’s Day Art Activity
Show Dad your love with an out of this world card!
Activity best for children age 2 and up
For this activity we want to celebrate all the dads out there! At our Museum we see amazing dads playing and learning together with their children every day. Today we want to help make their day special with this Father’s Day Art Activity.
The main portion of the Art Activity will be to create a rocket ship that could take us to space. We will decorate our rocket ship with different shapes that will help keep it protected and keep it stable. At the end we are going to add in a personal touch and a special note for dad!
Materials:
1 sheet of tin foil
1 sheet of black paper
2 small sheets of any other color paper (we used red and yellow)
White paint
Red or Orange paint (Tempera or other washable paint)
Glue or glue stick
Scissors
Small paint brush
Guiding Questions:
What are the different parts of a spaceship that we could make?
How many different shapes are we going to use for our spaceship?
What are some other colors you could pain the stars?
Directions
Step 1
Gather your materials. If your tin foil is coming from a long roll it will be helpful to cut it to the shape seen here.
Step 2
Glue the tin foil piece of material in the upper corner of your black paper.
Step 3
Cut and glue 2 small right angle triangles to the bottom of your tin foil. A right angle triangle is a triangle that has 1 angle that is 90 degrees. The easiest way to create this is by cutting from the corner of your paper.
Step 4
Cut and glue on your equilateral triangle for the heat shield on the top of your rocket. An equilateral triangle is a triangle that has three equal angle degrees and side lengths.
Step 5
Add in the stars your rocket will pass by on its voyage.
Step 6
**Alert** Have the ability to wash your hands immediately after this step!
Paint the red or orange paint onto your hand and press it just below the rocket ship to simulate flames. These flames would come from the engines and create the thrust needed to achieve exit velocity.
Step 7
