Halloween STREAM Activity: Mess-Free Painted Cardboard Pumpkin
Happy Halloween!
Activity best for children age 1 and up
Art and science get blended together in this spooky sensory experience. Join us to practice fine motor skills, color mixing and seasonal fun by creating a mess-free painted cardboard pumpkin!
Materials you’ll need:
Paint
Cardboard
Scissors
Painters tape
Plastic sandwich bag
Directions
STEP 1
With grown-up support, cut an oval pumpkin shape out of the cardboard.
STEP 2
Create a jack o lantern face using painters tape.
- For Children 0-2: Grown Ups should support creating a face or design.
- For Children 2-4: This is a great fine motor skills activity. Invite children to practice ripping and placing tape where they would like on the pumpkin. (It is ok if it does not look like a traditional Halloween pumpkin!)
- For Children 4 and older: With grown up supervision, allow children to explore child-friendly scissors to practice cutting tape and placing it on their pumpkin.
STEP 3
Drop blobs of paint on the pumpkin face.
STEP 4
Carefully slide the pumpkin with paint into the plastic sandwich bag and seal the bag.
STEP 5
Mix the paint with your fingers (or toes!) to create a mess-free pumpkin masterpiece!
STEP 6
Carefully remove pumpkin from the Ziploc bag and allow to fully dry.
STEP 7
Carefully peel the painters tape off the cardboard and hang up your decorations to celebrate the season!
