STREAM Activity: Pencil Craft
Happy back to school season!
Activity best for children ages 2 and up
It’s that time of year when summer comes to an end and little ones head back to school. To get in the back to school spirit lets create a giant pencil craft with at home materials!

Materials:
Scissors
Construction paper (white, pink, yellow, brown, and black)
Duct tape
Glue
Ruler (optional)
White crayon (optional)
Beads and pasta (optional)
Guiding Questions:
What can you use a pencil for?
What are you looking forward to at school?
Directions
Step 1
Gather your materials!

Step 2
Grab the four pieces of colored construction paper and begin drawing the shapes for your pencil. The long part of your pencil will be a rectangle on the yellow paper, the eraser part will be half a circle on the pink paper, the wood, on the brown paper, and graphite part of your pencil, on the black paper, will be triangles. Once you have drawn your shapes you will then cut them out.

Step 3
Now that your shapes have been cut out it’s time to glue it all together. From top to bottom the pencil goes eraser, pencil, wood, and graphite.

Step 4
Next, you will cut a small rectangle strip of duct tape to be the metal holding your eraser to your pencil.

Step 5
Now that you have completed your pencil you can decorate it. Personalize it with fun beads, dried pasta, or maybe draw a creative design! The options are endless.
