STREAM Activity: Spring into Sustainability
Help our community be more sustainable!
Activity best for children age 2 and up
In honor of Earth Day, all April long San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum is thinking of ways that we can help our community be more sustainable. Sustainability means using tools and materials in a way that will make sure those resources are always available.
In 2015, the United Nations created a plan to help “transform our world.” This plan included 17 sustainability goals which include:
Goal 1: No Poverty
Goal 2: Zero Hunger
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being
Goal 4: Quality Education
Goal 5: Gender Equality
Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
Goal 10: Reduced Inequality
Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Goal 13: Climate Action
Goal 14: Life Below Water
Goal 15: Life on Land
Goal 16: Peace and Justice Strong Institutions
Goal 17: Partnerships to achieve the Goal
Each of these goals focuses on a resource that is important to our world. These goals also offer ideas about how we can help these tools or materials last long into the future.
Many of these important resources are in and around our own communities! For example, water is an important material, and we can save water by taking shorter showers or baths. We want to help our community be more sustainable, so we have a challenge for you: Can you complete your Sustainability Bingo card by the end of the month? Can you be more sustainable with how you use your community’s resources? Good luck “springing” into sustainability!
Download the bingo card below to play and submit your completed bingo card to education@sdcdm.org by April 30, 2020 to receive an SDCDM water bottle and other fun goodies!*
